Banter among three Today show anchors has upset some social media users Thursday.
After a segment about Randi Zuckerberg’s recent Facebook photo incident aired, the anchors confessed their confusion instead of adding knowledgeable information for viewers.
Here are a few lines from anchors Willie Geist, Savannah Guthrie and Natalie Morales’s discussion, which starts at 2:20 in the above video:
Geist: “Guys, I have to confess. I don’t know anything about Facebook or privacy settings.”
Guthrie: “OK. And also, show of hands if you understand how the photo got on Twitter. I don’t quite get it myself.”
Geist: “I’m still trying to figure out my fax machine so I’m not helpful in this discussion”
Morales: “I’m confused. … And this is why I don’t do Facebook. My picture with my dog is the only thing I post.”
Guthrie: “What’s the takeaway here? We don’t know either.”
Viewers immediately chimed in across social networks, particularly Twitter, where several users criticized the anchors’ dismissive comments about Facebook privacy.
The fact the Today Show hosts don’t understand how the Internet works isn’t cute, it’s poor journalism soup.ps/WJsyL7
